Blake Starkey- General Manager
Blake Starkey has been hired as Central Texas Athletic Club’s Manager. Blake brings a wealth of club experience our General Manager position and we are very excited to have him on board.
An East Texas native, while new to CTXAC, Blake is no stranger to tennis or club environments. Blake holds a B.A. in Public Relations, an M.S. in Sport Administration, and has held leadership positions his entire career. A standout full scholarship tennis athlete for Eastern Kentucky University, Blake quickly fell into collegiate coaching. For 20 years, Blake served as an NCAA Division I College Coach at major universities. He was the Head Men’s Tennis Coach at the University of Maryland (the Terps in the Big 10) for 6 years. He later served as the Head Women’s Tennis Coach at the University of Missouri (the Mizzou Tigers in the SEC) for over 14 years.
After 20 years as a college coach, he wanted a new challenge and was named Director of Tennis at the Country Club of Little Rock, the flagship club of the State of Arkansas. He raised the CCLR’s tennis department to heights it had never achieved before. However, he badly wanted to return to Texas, and specifically, Central Texas. He served as the Director of Advanced Programs and Head Tennis Pro at Westheimer Indoor in Houston. With extensive family in Austin, Georgetown, and Palestine, Blake is excited to return to Central Texas. He is also very excited to be joining CTXAC. Blake’s wife, Julie, has recently been named the Dean of Student Success at Central Texas College in Killeen. The Starkey’s have two children, Emily (22), who is finishing school at Texas State, and Samuel (18) who just started school, and is a freshman also at Texas State in San Marcos.
While you will probably see Blake all over the club, with an extensive tennis background, don’t be surprised to see Blake around the tennis courts hitting or teaching periodically. We are excited to announce Blake as our General Manager, and encourage our membership to welcome him and his family to CTXAC.
